Comfort is the key to success in the rideshare business. Your comfort level as a driver directly affects your level of service to your passengers, which affects your ratings, your gratuities, and ultimately your job.
In this article I’ll tackle three items that go a long way toward making both you and your passengers more comfortable along your journey.
I’m 6’3 and I weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 220lbs. It’s important for me to be able to fit comfortably into my vehicle of choice
Comfort behind the wheel
I’m 6’3 and I weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 220lbs. It’s important for me to be able to fit comfortably into my vehicle of choice while maintaining a certain level of comfort behind the wheel for extended periods of time.
Now if you’re using your own vehicle as a Lyft driver, feel free to skip through this section of the article. I’m speaking to those who plan to rent a vehicle through the Lyft rental program right now.
I choose to drive a Nissan Altima. I find that the Altima provides me with more than enough head and leg room. In fact, extending the seat fully to the rear is actually too far back for me to drive from, which is a rarity.
I find the driver seat to be plush and very comfortable. I’ve driven 10.5 hours without leaving the seat and felt no driver fatigue at all at the end of the day.
Also in the Altima, I like the fact that I have all my driving stats right in front of me throughout the day. I highly recommend the Altima.
Making your passenger comfortable
I prefer to work at night. I always have. I think it’s great that our passengers know what our cars look like before we arrive to pick them up. But I’ve also found that adding side placards to my car in addition to the front and rear window stickers has made it much easier for my passengers to identify me after dark as the ride they’ve been waiting for. These plastic reflective placards have a magnetic backing. They remove easily and they will not damage your paint job. I picked these placards up on Amazon for $11.75.
A Driver Essential
I spent my first day as a driver nervously attempting to be warm and gracious to my passengers while navigating through insane drivers in West LA with one hand, and preventing my cell phone from flopping all over my car with the other hand. If I had had this little handy gizmo, my first day would have gone a lot smoother. I picked this phone holder up on Amazon for $9.99 (regular price $29.99).
There are many other little gadgets on the market that will make both you and you passengers a bit more comfortable along your way. Look for more product related articles like this one which are designed to make your life as a driver much easier.
